Pick of the week – Galleano & Anarchafeminist Social

March 22nd, 2010

Hope to have some comments on the film festival later in the week, but first I’ll draw your attention to 2 fun things happening in town this week.

On Wednesday, there’s a celebration of the life & work of Eduardo “Open Veins of Latin America” Galleano. Starts 7.00 at the Tollcross Community Centre, 117 Fountainbridge. Full listing at Indymedia.

On Friday, there’s a 2nd chance to see De Toda la Vida (if you missed it on Saturday) at the Edinburgh Anarchafeminist Kollectiv‘s Social:

Potluck and film night for the monthly social event of the Edinburgh Anarchafeminist Kollective!

Please bring some food to share, and maybe something to eat it with, to ACE at 8pm on Friday March 26th. Film will start at 8.45pm. We hope to be screening “De Toda La Vida: All our lives” – a film about the Spanish Anarcha-feminists Mujeres Libres who were active in the Spanish Revolution, in the 1930′s. We have a second film about the situation of women in Cuba which we will show if time permits.

The Edinburgh Anarchafeminist Kollective hopes to be holding social events monthly, on the last Friday of the month. Check out our website for more information!

Meeting tonight at ACE, 8pm

February 19th, 2009

Tomorrow some of us will be meeting at 8pm in ACE for an Edinburgh Anarchist Federation meeting. The last meeting was of members and non-members, it’s an open meeting so feel free to come along whether you are a member or not as I’m sure there is lots of common ground we can find in our struggles and campaigns. There is quite a lot on the agenda, but if there is something you want to discuss then feel free to add to it.

Short notice, I know. There’s a post scheduled for tomorrow that will make for ironic lulz.

What’s happening in Edinburgh? The ACE Quiz!

January 22nd, 2009

Friday 30 JAN 2009, doors open 6pm @ ACE, 17 W. Montgomery Place, Edinburgh

Question 1
Do you like a drink?

Question 2
Do you like curry?

Question 3
Do you think you’re clever?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions then read on…

Leith’ s reluctant new entertainment hub, the Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh, 17 west Montgomery place, is hosting a quiz night to raise money.

There will be:

  • Delicious organic coconut and vegetable rice with (vegan) ‘butter’ dahl and pasta salad for eats
  • An endless amount of organic ales and wines available via a raffle at discount prices (hey we are a food coop after all)
  • A dazzling array / intriguing mix of anarchist history, general knowledge, absurd idiosyncratic “Whae the fuck would ken that!??” questions and easy ones.

Added to this an exciting music round, a film round and an ‘activist’ / protester ‘What happened next?’ round all brought to you via our luxurious high res digital projection suite with surround sound!

Deal capitalism and patriarchy a blow the easy way – from your favourite armchair in ACE, with a pint in your hand, stuffing your face with curry cooked by someone else, showing off how clever you are.
