One Battle Won, War on Workfare Continues this Saturday

End Unpaid Work with SabcatThe campaign against the governments’ forced-labour Work Programme claimed another victory last week when Holland & Barrett reversed their plan to source a large proportion of their staff from the schemes. Unusally, they admitted that this was because of the protest campaign against them.

It’s hurting them and it’s working.

This victory means that there’s a new target for this Saturday’s day of action against workfare profiteers. The lucky exploiters are… Primark! OMG! Who seem to be trying to make their cheap tatty clothes even less appealing by having them sold by (as well as made by) slaves.

Here’s the call-out:

FIRST SUCCESS FOR WEEK OF ACTION: HOLLAND & BARRETT PULL OUT

Holland & Barrett are pulling out of their involvement in workfare. Described by the Guardian as “pioneers” of
the scheme, this is a major blow to the government’s workfare plans.
